Why Candor Uses Amazon Affiliate Links

On December 12, 2021, six people were killed when a tornado hit an Amazon warehouse in Edwardsville, IL. Instead of evacuating workers, Amazon prioritized fulfilling orders in the holiday rush.

Amazon actively fights against unions and consistently prioritizes profits over people. Their environmental impact is staggering. They squash small businesses. They enable the human rights crisis on our southern border by hosting the Department of Homeland Security’s databases on Amazon Web Services. They don’t pay their fair share in income taxes. Jeff Bezos’s greed is legendary.

So, why on earth does Candor, a publication all about fighting inequality and injustice, use Amazon affiliate links?

In short, we’re being subversive. Amazon has an expansive infrastructure already in place that we can use to help fight against the harm that they, and others like them, do. We’re taking advantage of their operations to help fund our work against injustice and inequality here at Candor.

We also recognize that Amazon DOES have very low prices and that the American people, as a whole, are struggling financially right now. Not everyone can afford to support ethical and sustainable small businesses while wages forever lag behind inflation.

We do understand, however, if you don’t want to support us while also supporting Amazon. In order to help us eliminate the need for Amazon affiliate income, please consider subscribing to our quarterly online magazine at patreon.com/candorzine.

If you would like your regular Amazon purchases to also help Candor, you can use our affiliate link here.
