#ShopSmall - Sexy & Sweet Emboudoir

Hold on to your samplers folks. Embroidery has taken the crafting world by storm! Don't believe me? Just search #embroidery on insta and try NOT to get sucked into the miles and miles of scrolling with beautiful needlepoint masterpieces. Since you're reading this article, I know you are already a fan of small businesses who are creatively carving their footholds in the craft world. For embroidery artists, they are enticing individuals to bring bespoke tread works into their homes, and I'm here for it!

Being a country kid and having spent time dabbling in the embroidery floss aisle myself, I have a nostalgic nook in my heart for this work. Moreover, that's part of the charm, isn't it? Even if you have never tried it, we all can appreciate pieces like those of Thread Fox Handmade and Emboudior for the time and detail evident in each hoop. Craig's pieces contrast whimsey with something a bit salacious. Pieces that show crafts(wo)manship, and charm.

Starting as a way to relax and create, Rebecca Lynn Craig has caught our attention with her artistry in Thread Fox, but she is holding our attention in a whole new way with Emboudior. She had no intention of creating an embroidery boudoir shop when she began Thread Fox, but then, well, dang it, she finished all her commissions and decided to start a new project just for herself.

She decided to stitch something new. It was a nude self-portrait, and it was incredible. "I knew almost instantly," Craig says, of starting Emboudior. "I started out wanting to represent bodies like mine, but it has expanded beyond that."

Emboudior is a new kind of portrait, one where the subject gets displayed honestly and elevated. Craig says, "I want to create what you see in the mirror and turn it into something you are excited to see."

This kind of honest excitement isn't something that exists for "fluffy" people, as she calls herself, outside of fetishized art, she says.

"I don't shy away from stretch marks, or wrinkles, or whatever."

Those elements of her pieces are part of what makes them so attractive. Craig is on a mission to bring sex-positive art into the hands of the people who are craving something intimate, real, and sensual.

It isn't a fetish.

It isn't a kink.

It is a real body.

This work is not your momma's stitching- unless your momma has been part of an underground needlepoint world that we hope we can be cool enough to join someday. And just like momma kept that a secret, Craig is open about taking privacy seriously. So no, we aren't sharing all of the work she has produced. However, if you want to consider a truly unique gift for this holiday or perhaps for a special anniversary, or fuck it, if you want it for yourself, follow the links below to see her pages and works of art that are permitted to be shared.

If you want to hear more about Craig, her work, and how this came to be, our full interview is available through the link below as well.

Happy stitching!
