A Sweet and Simple, 5-Minute Marriage Hack (Seriously though, like 5 minutes or less)

Brooke Duke

Marriage is hard. Marriage after kids is harder. Suddenly you have to remember to prioritize your spouse while keeping your kids alive and healthy and happy and keeping the house running and clean (I guess?) and paying rent. It’s really easy to fall into a rut of just letting life happen and going with the flow of each day. But that’s not necessarily a good recipe for a great marriage. So I’m going to give you a marriage secret that takes literally five minutes or less to implement.

What you will need:

- a picture frame, whatever size you prefer (a 5x7 is perfect)

- a dry erase marker

- a piece of paper and a pen

- Bonus: a sharpie

Take a notecard or a blank piece of paper cut to the size of the frame. On it, write “I love you because…” Put it into the frame with the words out.

Now you have a nice frame that says, “I love you because…” Take your dry erase marker and finish the sentence. Write directly on the glass of the frame. A tissue will erase it easily so you can keep using it over and over again!

You can be as creative as you want with it. I chose a frame with a flat white finish and used a thin point Sharpie to write our names on the edges and decorate it a bit.

We use this little trick every week! We take turns changing the words on the frame. Sometimes it takes us a few days to come up with a new one, but you could easily leave little love notes to your partner every day.

If you subscribe to the 5 Love Languages, this hits Words of Affirmation big time! And even if that’s not one of your main love languages, who doesn’t like hearing nice things about themselves? You can throw in some Receiving Gifts by preparing the frame secretly and surprising your partner with it. (It makes a really great DIY Valentine’s gift.)

I did this for my husband, but I have loved it just as much as he has. Some of the things he’s written to me have really stuck with me. And the more you use it, the more creative you have to be. It’s really eye-opening to hear the things your partner appreciates about you that go deeper than, “You’re really adorable.”

So go try it! Let us know how it goes and post a picture of your Love Frame on our Facebook page.
